La Colina de Carolina means Carol's Hilltop. La Colina de Carolina ( LCC) is a newly built 1 BR, 1 ½ BA cabin with THE ocean view. It is constructed of pressure treated pine and built on posts sunk well into the ground so as not to disturb the hilltop with big equipment. All of La Colina fits in and works with the ground, the trees, the water source, and the sun. ….our solar hot water for the whole house, for example . Going forward are only solar lights and more !

The best thing about LCC is the fabulous ocean view, no doubt. Look one direction and see the vast blue ocean. Look the other way and see the cliffs and surf of Punta Pierdra Amarillo, one side of Bahia Ballena ( Tambor Bay).

Next best thing probably is that we always have a breeze here on the hilltop. You know, it's always warm here in Costa Rica, and this breeze feels great here at La Colina. Ceiling fans in every room move this breeze through the house,

You can always hear the surf at night and most days. Sitting on the deck is peaceful and relaxing, especially in the rocker. The grande mesa….large table with 2 benches…..is made from a downed Pachote tree, one of Costa Rica's finest building woods. This big, fine table is great for having food or drinks, sitting, reading, conversing and more. The hammocks are popular, too. Lazy
living can be had !!

LCC has big sky!! Wyoming or Montana got nothin' on this sky! The stars are bright and the constellations clear. Use the great "Night Sky Interactive Sky Watcher's Guide" to learn more. A full moon is really something at La Colina.

A path called "The Loop" winds around the 2.2 acre property. Teak benches are along the walkway to look at the stars or just step away from the house. We also call them "smoking lounges" as LCC is a non-smoking house.

We have solar hot water for the entire house. It is an innovative system requiring no electricity, ie, no electric pumps. Hot water in Costa Rican homes is not common. So we really have done well here at La Colina. Also, we have a water tank reservoir for the house that does have a pump, eliminating the "dry" water faucet syndrome when the water goes off (in high season, this can be frequent). When you come home from the beach or other activities, knowing you can shower can be a good thing !

The caretaker's casita, La Casita de Carolina, is on the Loop below the house, discretely located for security and privacy for him and the main house. As theft is our biggest problem in Costa Rica, LCC is very secure. Security bars on the windows are very artful. Secure doors are present for leaving the house. A small safe box is available for secure keeping of "stuff".

LCC has 1 BR, plus a firm, comfortable sofa bed, thus sleeping up to 4 people. LCC has a full kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, micro-oven, toaster w/oven, crock pot and coffee maker. LCC even has a washer and dryer. The dryer is a must in rainy times. The clothes line is convenient to the washer as well. We have an LCD TV with DVD player (this can be optional if you really "want to get away from it all". There's a small CD player / FM radio.

All windows in LCC are glass with screens, including screen doors. There is rarely a moment during the day or night without a breeze at La Colina. Longer than normal roof overhang protects the deck well from rain and keeps it shaded.

La Colina de Carolina is conveniently located very close to central Montezuma. Walk to the end of the driveway for the the main road and bus route, if you don't have a car. It's only a short walk (.62 mile or 10 minutes) downhill into Montezuma central Thus it is very easy to get around. It's only a 1 km walk (.62 mile) downhill into Montezuma central and beaches……takes a little longer back up the hill up to the house.

La Colina de Carolina is a wonderful place to be. It's peaceful and relaxing…..yet quite invigorating in some ways. The ocean has great power. Yet closer to you at the house, you are surrounded with "green" landscaping. You will hear the Howler monkeys and probably see some. The White Face monkeys may come around. You might see an Agouti or a Pizote and many species of birds.

If you are coming to Montezuma, staying at La Colina de Carolina can be a great part of your experience here.
